Conservative Party “Weather Vane” Policies Undermine Island Education - Melanie Swan

As the Isle of Wight Conservative Councillors Group announce plans to shelve controversial education changes until after the next election, a dissident former Conservative Councillor described the new proposals as hypocritical plans hatched in desperation.

“I could hardly believe what I heard. David Pugh’s leadership has already subjected the Island to unprecedented levels of misery and uncertainty because of one ‘about turn’ on policy. Now he announces another one! This Council should have been investing its efforts in improving education on the Island in order to make a proper evaluation of what changes, if any, were needed. That was what we said we would do in the last election. Instead, the current administration caused widespread worry and confusion by dragging the Island through a back-to-front process, ending up where it should have started – asking people what they actually want!

“The people of the Isle of Wight have already seen the current leadership reneging on Manifesto commitments. How can anyone trust promises made by people who seem to change their minds depending on which way they think the wind’s blowing! Looking at the record since David Pugh seized power, I’m not persuaded by this sudden change of heart and will be standing as an Independent candidate in the next Council election. However, I continue to be a committed supporter of our excellent MP, Andrew Turner, who has always shown real integrity and commitment to the Island whether in the education or any other debate.”

HUH! This might just blow up in the councils face. Stop messing people about, make your minds up. You think you are playing a clever political game, you are just scared thats all, scared of losing your jobs, we can all see through it. What has really hapenned here? Did you find out that you have done something wrong, like going against human rights, going against policies in regards to small schools etc….etc….. Have you had a slapped wrist off of a higher body.

Yarmouth, Weston, St helens and Chale Primary School it isnt over yet, this is just what we wanted to hear, now lets vote them out. We will fight on to retain our schools in our wonderful villages. Amalgamation for Yarmouth! what a complete load of b******s. This is closure. We are not fooled.

Oh what a surprise! Have they finally realised that during the next 10 months of screwing up what is currently a good primary school system they will be making more and more people realise they haven’t and never did have the right solution to improving High school results.
As the elections gets closer Politicians will make more and more promises of how wonderful life is going to be. You cant do that if you are constantly upsetting a huge chunk of the electorate. I’m sure a few Islanders will be happy and may even get to the promised land, sorry Faith school, but many people will have to change the way they currently live and for what, nobody has said that they will guarantee this will make any difference to the final results and why is that, its because they don’t know. I find that amazing, but after going to one of the earlier meeting and nothing changed, I’m like the majority now I can wait 10 months for the Ballot Box.
