Just a few observations:
• Press Release: Why does this only focus on the question about options? Did we waste our time answering the rest?
• 88% - fairly or very important to retain schools within local communities – factors for improving education
• 80% - fairly or very important to reduce the need for younger pupil travel
• “Retaining schools within local communities appears to be the most important factor / action” – this is not mentioned in the press release.
• “This (retaining local schools) supports findings from the first part of the question, where 88% of all respondents* rated this as important to improving education on the Island.” * Richard Bryan, Managing Director of QA Research said, “The survey has given the council a robust and representative indication of local residents’ views. A sample size of 1,100 would have given the council a sufficient steer but the level of responses at nearly three times that ensures accuracy of representation to within +/-2% of all residents’ views.”
• Was the survey sent to 14,000 (Exec summary) or 11,000 (main analysis section)?
• Press Release: “9% indicated they had no preference” – was it not agreed (on IW Radio, albeit very late in the process) that this could be selected to indicate you disagreed with all options? It should not necessarily be interpreted as indicating apathy, additionally a proportion of respondents did not answer this question – what comments did these people make?
• When will we receive answers / responses to the “further comments” section – 2,411 base? Especially about closing schools that are performing well, communities, bias of survey and travel.
