“Religious schools ’show bias for rich’” - The Observer

This just in from Wendy:

This article in today’s Observer is very timely. Note that a decision on the ABK/Trinity merger, which will be renamed Christ the King College, which is the precursor to the proposed faith high school, is to be made by Alan Wells this Thursday (6/3/08) under delegated powers. The link to the council decision notice is here (ref 13/08):

And the Observer article of 2/3/08 says -
Religious schools ’show bias for rich’:
“Damning new evidence that faith schools are siphoning off middle-class pupils can be revealed today, as research shows they are failing to take children from the poorest backgrounds nationwide.
Even when they are situated in deprived inner-city areas, religious schools have fewer poor children than local authority secondary schools.”
