Hi, Lee Churchward here.
I didnt hear all of the phone in today, but I did call in myself, and e-mailed. It appears because the Isle of Wight radio have found out that I am an overner I am now being discriminated against and slagged off by Islanders on the phone in. I have never heard of such disgusting behaviour from a group Islanders. These people should be ashamed of themselves. I am merely a parent concerned for my childrens education and well being, and now apparently I am unentitled to an opinion on the schools debate because I have lived on the Island for only 3 years. For goodness sake. If we worked on the same theory and said that overners were not entitled to there opinion, why on earth then are we listening to the opinions and proposals of Alan Wells and Steve Beynon. What narrow minded people this group are.
Do they discriminate against people from other countries moving to the UK as well. If they do then not only are they prejudice then they are racists too. How dare they say I should shut up and stop talking about the debate because I am originally from elsewhere. I am part of a family who decided to come to the Island because it is such a beautiful place, we appreciate it all the more. I really didnt realise there were so many small minded people living on the Island who isolate themselves away from mainlanders and discriminate against them. What a great pity.

I’ve been here 10 years, Lee and moved for the same reasons and, er, for the schools!
From the number of “overners” I meet here every day, if we all went back to the mainland the population of the Island would shrink by about 80%! I don’t know what the actual statistics are, but really, the prejudice you encountered today must be very atypical, and the kind of narrow-mindedness you can get anywhere. (My mum always felt out of place in the Yorkshire town I grew up in because she was from Merseyside. The bloke up the street was proud of the fact he’d never been further than Barnsley, and he was in his 70s.)

Don’t worry Lee - playing the “Overner’ is Mr Dyke’s usual style when he wants undermine a caller’s comments and is unable to think up a proper counter-argument.
To follow Mr Dyke’s logic presumable someone who send their kids to private schools shouldn’t be able to get involved in a debate on state schools? i of course would never say that!
Remember dispite impressions IW Radio Phone In doesn’t represent most people on the Island and don’t be too hard on those who slagged you off many of the callers have mental health issues which Mr Dyke appears to take full advantage of.

Hi Lee.
I was listening to the phone in and heard DJ Dyke turn on you. I thought it was pretty low move on his part but let’s face it , he’s hardly indicative of most islanders and is just trying to stir up trouble in a rather amateurish local DJ kind of way. (smashy and nicey would be proud). But then i guess that’s his job.
I suggest we all stop listening to him as he doesn’t appear to be adding anything to the debate anyway. Perhaps Mr Pugh and Mr Wells can stop spending copious amounts of time at the station too!
Please don’t think all islanders hold those views, they don’t. As a parent and a member of school staff i appreciate your support and interest in this debate.

Another reason to boycott Alex and Doc’s show. I would like to suggest to send an email to all the advertisers of the program, just saying politely why we are boycotting the program (such as amauterism, narrow minded views, bad taste, etc…) and to let them know that it is not worth to spend their money on it. What is the best attitude when dealing with children’s behaviour? Ignore bad behaviour and reward good behaviour.
Does anyone has a list of the programs advertisers or all the advertisers of IOW radio?

A special message for Lee Churchwood. As an Islander born and bred I am thrilled that you have chosen our Island to raise your family. I have lots of friends and work colleagues who have moved here purposely for the present school system, smaller classes and better quality of life generally. Perhaps your view is all the more important, as this re-organisation is supposed to attract families such as yours from the mainland to assist the Islands economic growth. It is only a pity that changing our school system to mirror the mainland will take away the attraction for families to move here and have the opposite effect from that desired by the IW Council. Keep working for your school, I am positive they are proud of you.

My family has lived in the West Wight for at least 200 years and support Lee and anyone else who opposes the closure of any rural or small Primary schools by this bunch of thugs that call themselves Conservatives.
No educational or financial argument has been put forward to justify these closures.
Closures of rural primary schools is opposed by all political parties other than the Isle of Wight Conservative party.
Should we not picket the Isle of Wight Radio station next time Pugh and Wells are on because phoning in is a waste of time.
