17 Councillors Support Motion to Reject Schools Reform Options!
The motion put forward by Councillor Patrick Joyce at tonight’s full council meeting to abandon the proposed shakeup of the schools system was lost by a small majority tonight.
26 councillors voted against the motion, 17 voted for the options to be scrapped.
To quote “Fieldhawk” from the Have Your Say section:
“We may have lost a battle; we have not lost the war.
To close, then, congratulations to Patrick Joyce, Melanie Swan and their supporters
for trying to do something for the people of the Isle of Wight. Which is more than
can be said for the vast majority of the Council.”

I attended the meeting last night and what was really worrying is that Alan Wells still can’t answer reasonable questions about the re-organisation plans and that Councillor Abraham (Wootton) said that the consultation was about whether we should have a three or two tier system. No one corrected him that it is actually supposed to be about raising standards and this may not realistically be achieved by any of the options. The actual vote would have been 19 for the motion, but two Councillors who are not supporting the closures were absent. Please continue to pressure your Councillor - the margin is super close now. Well done everyone.

Looks like there is an opportunity to support a campaign to make a difference at the next meeting on 19th March.
Info is in a post in ‘Have Your Say!’ (http://iwssca.blogspot.com/)

Perhaps my favourite ever quote and from a Tory rebel
“The leader is trying to make a name for himself and I fear that name is twit.”
I got that quote from Geoff Lumleys’ blog and wanted to share (in case, you haven’t seen it)
We need to keep the pressure on…….
